2013 Beneficiary Announced!

We are so happy to announce our next beneficiary! 100% of the net profits from the 2013 Childhood Calendar will be going to March of Dimes!

I know you must be as excited as I am to learn about this, and I look forward to this year’s journey! Please share this with your friends, and encourage them to participate. It’s the ultimate win-win-win scenario, where all the funds go to an incredible organization, the photographed families get some wonderful imagery created and the satisfaction of knowing they are helping other mothers and babies, and we get the joy of meeting so many wonderful children, donating our time and energy to a cause we believe in, and hopefully creating some lasting relationships in the process!

As usual, most families who are photographed are local to the Atlanta area. However, this year there is a possibility to enter if you live along the East Coast of the US — let us know if you’re interested, and we might be able to coordinate a special session time during the month of June!

Oana Hogrefe Photography (www.shutterview.com) is delighted to announce March of Dimes as the beneficiary of the 2013 Childhood Calendar fundraising journey (http://www.childhoodcalendar.com).

Each year, a public casting call is issued and 25-35 children are chosen to be photographed (mostly in the greater Atlanta area) as part of this effort. Funds are collected through the session fee, the online voting for the featured month images, and the sales of the calendars. 100% of net profits are donated to that year’s chosen charity.

Over $ 11k was raised through this effort during the past two years.

“We are grateful for the community involvement and for the generosity of everyone who participates, contributes or helps pass the word! We are beyond excited to be naming March of Dimes the 2013 Childhood Calendar beneficiary!”, said Hogrefe, the owner of Oana Hogrefe Photography and the creator of Childhood Calendar. “March of Dimes is a particularly worthy organization, dedicated to bettering the lives of babies and mothers through support, education and research.”

1 in 8 babies in the US is born prematurely. March of Dimes works relentlessly to reduce the number of babies born too early, through research of the risk factors as well as through raising public awareness of the seriousness of prematurity.

“We are proud to partner with Oana Hogrefe Photography on this endeavor to benefit our organization,” said Sheila Ryan, Georgia State Director of the March of Dimes. ”Preventing premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality is our priority and we know that the Childhood Calendar will certainly make an impact on these efforts to fight for stronger, healthier babies in the state of Georgia.”

We raised $6,000!

The official presentation of the funds raised through the 2012 Childhood Calendar took place today! Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation was given a check for $6,000, which could help provide those unique getaways for 10-12 special families.

We are humbled by the enthusiastic participation of all families involved, and thankful to everyone who voted, purchased calendars, helped pass the word and supported us on this journey!

You may know that every year local families participate in creating a one-of-a-kind, beautiful and important piece of art: a calendar the profits from which go entirely to a not-for-profit organization committed to bettering the lives of children and families in direct or indirect ways.

Last year, with your support we proudly raised $5,630 for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

This year, we hope to top that in our quest to raise funds for another worthy organization, Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation.

Who are they and what do they do for children? Imagine a family with young children and a parent who is fighting an advanced stage of cancer. Jack and Jill has a unique mission: for such families, they will provide an all-expenses-paid getaway to a location of the family’s choosing! For several magical and memorable days, they get to be a family having fun, away from the medical intrusiveness of battling this illness. Something so ordinary for most other families, yet so unique and precious. Something they are grateful for, for the rest of their lives. An experience that provides the young children with memories they will review and cherish as they grow, memories of joyful times with their parents, when they got to be the simply that: a family, together, enjoying life. Jack and Jill also provides them with cameras if needed, and a way to create a keepsake memory book free of charge.

This charity speaks to me on so many levels: the delighting in the present moment; the creation of visual reminders of the joy and closeness in our families. I feel strongly that their work is important and will help these young children remember the love their family shared, as the future unfolds.

2012 Calendars available for pre-order!

Great news, you can begin pre-ordering the 2012 Childhood Calendar now! They will be back from production late this month, and available for pick-up in NE Atlanta, or for shipping. Choose whichever options works best for you when ordering!

If you can help by providing a pick-up location in your store, please let me know (oana@shutterview.com) and we will be listing your business here. Also, there is a special discount for packs of 10, so you can take care of gifts for your family, friends and colleagues!
